In Scripture...

"... blessed are you who are poor: the kingdom of God is yours.  Blessed are you who are hungry now: you shall have your fill."

Luke 6:20-26

Poverty and Hunger
inspired by Ignatius Loyola

Is it the poverty and the hunger that gives us the right to the kingdom of God?  Is there blessing in poverty, alone, or is it that poverty gives us a emptiness for everything except Divine Intimacy?  Is there goodness in hunger, alone, or is it the thrusting for what is missing at the heart of who we are?

As a 1st Century disciple, 2000 years later, are we not asked to sit on the mountain top of our soul's heart in the sacred solitude and listen to the Lord as Christ speaks the beatitudes in the silence of our soul's heart.  As the Word rings in the deepest part of our being, will we hear?  Will we be transformed from being poor to poverty of the Spirit?  Will we be filled with love in place of the starvation for the human food that feeds our soul, not?

In the East, in the sitting, in the centering, in the being, finding the question at the heart of our being will find the living in mystery and will find a 1st Century disciple living in 2000 years later.

Ignatius
