Paul of the Cross on God's Will...

"...God alone dwells ... intimate space ... of the soul..."

This personal relationship with God and the desire to be so entirely filled with God that one does God’s will alone – the energy for such action lies in the power of personal love – essentially defines what Paul of the Cross meant by his expression mystical death.  One who possesses such an intense relationship of love with God has a strong desire to do his will alone and to let the Beloved work in him or her.  Of this, the saint wrote, ~taken from Chapter 3: Mystical Death-Divine Nativity of The Mysticism of the Passion in St. Paul of the Cross by Martin Bialas, CP

. . . and wait without worry for that which God wants to do, cutting off all that is from the outside so that nothing will be an impediment for the divine action which takes place in the innermost chamber, where no creature can enter, neither angelic nor human, but [where] God alone dwells in the intimate space or maybe essence, mind, or sanctuary of the soul. ~Paul of the Cross to Thomas Fossi  on December 29, 1768

current translation
"...awaits without solicitude what God disposes for him, cutting off everything that is outside so that there is no impediment to the divine work which takes place within, in the intimate inner cell where no creature can come near, neither angelic nor human, but only God dwells in the intimate center or essence or mind or sanctuary of the soul, where the powers remain attentive to the divine work and to that Divine Birth which is celebrated every moment in the one who has the good fortune to be dead mystically.
