In Scripture... "...Mary Luke 11:42 |
Quality Time inspired by Scripture Several years ago when contemplating, the insight came to me that maybe Christ was saying that Mary has chosen the better part because she was not complaining and she was enjoying the moment.
As I hold and ponder
this insight, it seems to me that Martha's relationship with Mary
may not have been one of deep friendship as she did not ask
Mary to help her. Were Martha and Mary just Sisters that
were having an ordinary day? Is this why Martha
complained to Jesus rather than just asking Mary to help her?
Was Jesus simply saying:
Mary is not complaining, not getting upset about preparing and
serving dinner, calm about the happenings of the day, and not
letting anything get to her; therefore, Martha be like Mary in this
way, do not be upset, do not control what happens to your Sister,
and let go of what is not free in you.
Like Mary, Jesus may be
asking Martha to be with them and enjoy the time that they have
together. Jesus may have known that there time together at
their home was limited; therefore, Jesus was asking for quality
time with both Mary and Martha.
When we come to be with
Jesus, is Christ asking you and me for quality time? Is
Jesus asking us to let go of our concerns for the time
that we are with Christ in prayer? Can we, like Martha, let go
and be with Jesus as Mary was?
